Love and mercy between spouses are mentioned in the Holy Quran (Ar-Rum: 21). Similarly, love and mercy between believers are mentioned in the Sunnah, as in the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The similitude of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like that of a single body; if one of its limbs complains, the entire body responds to it with fever and sleeplessness." Mercy among people is also mentioned, as in his (peace be upon him) saying: "Those who show mercy will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Show mercy to those on earth, and the One in the heavens will show mercy to you."
