What is the meaning of the word "azwajan" in verse 88 of Surat Al-Hijr?

The meaning of "azwajan" (pairs/spouses) in the noble verse, "Do not extend your eyes toward what We have given to azwajan of them to enjoy," is categories, or types, or counterparts. For a "zawj" (pair/spouse) is a counterpart or an equal, and what is meant here are the categories of the rich. The address came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after Allah had given him the Qur'an and the seven oft-repeated verses, warning him not to long for the worldly enjoyments that Allah had given to various types of the rich, because he had been given the greatest blessing, which is the magnificent Qur'an.
