Is it permissible to perform a DNA test to determine lineage and the closest tribes, in order to ascertain the correct lineage due to ignorance of it after the grandfather's displacement, and not to challenge lineages or boast?

Genetic fingerprinting is not a Shari'ah-approved method for establishing lineage except in specific circumstances, such as suspicion surrounding the lineage of a newborn and disputes over it. It is not permissible to use it to identify ancestors or to claim tribal affiliation, as this may lead to slandering lineages and tarnishing reputations, and because it is not definitive and conclusive. Human or laboratory errors may occur that affect its results. Likewise, it is not permissible to use genetic fingerprinting with the intention of verifying the accuracy of lineages already established by Shari'ah, as this involves impugning people's honor and corrupting family relationships. A lineage established by Shari'ah may not be denied except through li'an.
