Divorce should not be resorted to except after exhausting all means of reconciliation. It is of different categories: permissible (), disliked (makrooh), and forbidden (). The pronouncement of an explicit divorce twice obligates you to two divorces, according to the majority of scholars. You may reconcile with your wife before the completion of her (waiting period) if you have not divorced her before. Ibn Taymiyyah holds the view that divorce does not occur during a period of purity in which intercourse has taken place, because it is an innovated (bidi) and forbidden act.
