What is Abu Hanifa's view on sorcery, and on faith?

The scholars have mentioned that Imam Abu Hanifa was of the view that acts of obedience are not called faith, and the majority of the Sunnis denied this from him. Ibn Abd al-Barr narrated that Hammad ibn Zayd debated Abu Hanifa on the issue of Irja' (postponement of judgment), and asked him about a hadith that makes migration (Hijra) and jihad part of faith, whereupon Abu Hanifa remained silent, which indicates his retraction or hesitation.

As for magic, Abu Hanifa was of the opinion that it is disbelief (kufr), and its perpetrator should be executed.

Many imams have commended Imam Abu Hanifa, praising him for his vast knowledge, piety, and devotion, among them Ibn Ma'in, Ibn al-Mubarak, and Al-Shafi'i. Numerous books have also been authored on his virtues and merits.
