Is it permissible for a Muslim to worship a statue or to make a memorial statue of a heroic figure, even if they are not Muslim and fought against Muslims?
The prohibition of statues applies to both Muslims and disbelievers, and making a statue of a disbeliever is even more forbidden. Its prohibition is based on the fact that image-making is an imitation of Allah's creation and a means to polytheism (). Allah has threatened image-makers with punishment, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade images in homes and commanded their destruction. Angels do not enter a house that contains images, which leads to being deprived of good. Taking images is a means of falling into polytheism, as happened to previous nations who worshipped images of righteous people. The reasons for the prohibition are: imitating Allah's creation, resembling disbelievers, and being a means to polytheism.
