The answer

The act of sodomy is among the grave sins, forbidden and contrary to human nature. The Quran condemned it and its perpetrator, and the Ummah has reached a consensus on its prohibition. Nevertheless, Allah has opened the door of repentance for every sin, no matter how great. Allah (the Most High) says: "And whoever does evil or wrongs himself then seeks Allah’s forgiveness, he will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful," and "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" And Allah has promised to accept the repentance of those who repent. Repentance must be fulfilled with its conditions, and despairing of Allah's mercy is forbidden.
