What is the ruling on washing a man's clothes if his 'awrah is between the navel and the knee? And what is the ruling on spreading them, whether washed by my father or my mother? And what is the ruling on trousers if he lets his garment hang below the ankles?

"Scholars differ on the ruling of letting garments hang below the ankles without pride (khuyala’): some deem it forbidden, while others permit it with a degree of dislike (karaha). The relied-upon opinion for us is that it is forbidden.

If you do not believe that letting garments hang without pride is forbidden, then you must obey your mother in washing and hanging the trousers, because obeying her is obligatory, and she has not commanded you to commit a sin. Parents are to be obeyed in matters that are permissible, disliked, and even in doubtful matters, according to most scholars.

However, if you believe that letting garments hang is absolutely forbidden, and you know that your father will wear the trousers in a hanging manner, then there is no blame upon you for not obeying your mother, as you are not required to do something that assists another in committing what you believe to be forbidden."
