What is a father's right over his daughter in preventing her from going out, and how can one reconcile between the fatwas that permit a woman to go out to do good deeds without her father's permission and those that do not? Is it permissible for a university student to study in a mixed-gender university and sit with the girls there to relieve the pressure of studying, and if the father refuses that, does it become haram? Does a woman have the freedom to spend her time with her friends as long as it does not violate Islamic law?

A father's command to his daughter not to associate with female students whose character he does not know falls under obedience to parents, due to his concern for her well-being. This is in accordance with the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "A bad companion is like the blower of bellows." This might also serve as a barrier against corruption. Obedience to parents is obligatory in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah, and in matters that are beneficial to them and do not harm the child. However, if there is no benefit or if there is harm, then obedience is not obligatory.
