Is it necessary for a yellowish or brownish discharge (kudrah or sufrah) to precede or follow menstruation? And can a yellowish or brownish discharge occur without being followed by menstruation?

The brownish and yellowish discharge during menstruation is considered part of the menstrual period. However, after the days of menstruation, it is not considered anything. Some scholars cite the verse, "And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is a harm'" (Quran 2:222) to include yellowish and brownish discharge. It was also narrated that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to tell women, "Do not hasten [to purify yourselves] until you see the white discharge." As for the brownish and yellowish discharge appearing alone after the period of purity, some scholars consider it menstruation, while others stipulate that it must occur within the accustomed days of menstruation.
