What is the ruling on the one who frequently breaks an oath?

The one who causes another to break an oath (al-muḥannith) is anyone who causes another to break their oath. It is a right of a Muslim upon his brother to fulfill his oath, unless it is for something forbidden. If someone is the cause of a man breaking his oath, then the sin is upon the one who caused the oath to be broken (al-muḥannith), and the expiation (kaffārah) due to the oath is upon the one who swore it (al-ḥānith). It is narrated from Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us to do seven things," and he mentioned: "fulfilling the oath of the one who swore it." (Agreed upon). And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Fulfill it, for the sin is upon the one who caused the oath to be broken." As for the expiation, it is upon the one who swore the oath, as Ibn Qudamah said: "If he said: 'By Allah, so-and-so shall do such-and-such,' or 'shall not do,' or he swore an oath to someone present, saying: 'By Allah, you shall do such-and-such,' and then caused him to break it, and he did not do it, then the expiation is upon the one who swore the oath."
