The answer

A fasting person may taste food out of necessity, provided they are careful to prevent it from reaching the stomach. This act is considered (disliked) by the majority of scholars. If the food reaches the stomach out of forgetfulness, their fast remains valid according to the majority of scholars, in contrast to the Maliki school. However, if one intentionally swallows it, their fast is broken, they incur sin, and are required to make up the fast (qada') according to the majority of scholars, while the Maliki school requires both qada' and expiation ().
