Must a promise made to a deceased person be fulfilled?

Fulfilling a promise is legally required and naturally commendable for both the living and the deceased, especially if it does not entail harm. Scholars have differed regarding its ruling. The majority hold that it is recommended, while some are of the opinion that fulfilling it is obligatory if the one who was promised enters into something because of it, such as a debt. However, it is not obligatory if the one who was promised does not enter into anything because of it.
