What is the interpretation of the Hadith, "If one of you proposes to a woman, then if he is able to look at what would encourage him to marry her, let him do so," and the interpretation of "Look at her, for there is something in the eyes of the Ansar"?

It is commendable for a man to look at the woman he intends to propose to, as this encourages him to marry her, as stated in the noble hadiths. This is the view of the majority of scholars. The permission of the woman or her guardians is not required for this looking, and it is permissible for the suitor to repeat the gaze until the objective is achieved. Jurists have differed regarding what parts of the fiancée may be seen. Most of them have held that it is permissible to look at the face and hands, and this is the more preponderant view.
