Is it permissible to study the art of detecting logical fallacies and specious arguments, even though its discussions differ from those of logic?

There is no harm in reading about logical fallacies and studying logic that is free from the impurities of philosophy, for the purpose is to clarify aspects of error in reasoning. This resembles what the Usuliyyun (scholars of Islamic legal theory) mention in "defects of the 'illah (effective cause)" and "etiquettes of research and debate." The esteemed scholar Muhammad Al-Amin Al-Shinqiti clarified that learning this art is essential to confront deceivers who are capable of presenting falsehood as truth, and to refute their arguments, provided that it is free from the impurities of false philosophy, as purified by the scholars of Islam.
