Scholars differ concerning the purity of the discharges that issue from a woman. The preponderant opinion is that they are pure if they originate from the birth canal, and impure if they originate from the urinary meatus. Both, however, invalidate ablution. If they exit during prayer, ablution and prayer must be repeated, unless they are continuous ( سلس ), in which case performing ablution for each prayer suffices. Impure discharges, according to those who hold them to be impure, necessitate washing whatever they have soiled on one's garment or body before prayer.
