What is the manner of performing the Layl (night) vigil prayer and the number of its Rak'ahs (units of prayer), and what is the preferred supplication after the Fajr (dawn) prayer?
Authentic supplications and remembrances have been reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to be recited after prayers in general, and after Fajr prayer in particular. Among them are:
1. His saying when he finished the Fajr prayer: «O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.» 2. His saying after the Fajr prayer, while still sitting with his legs folded, before speaking: «There is no god but Allah alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent,» ten times. 3. His saying after Fajr and Maghrib prayers: «O Allah, protect me from the Hellfire,» seven times.
And a Muslim may supplicate with whatever he wishes, choosing the most comprehensive and beneficial supplications.
