Speaking is forbidden for worshipers on Friday while the Imam is delivering the sermon. However, from the moment he descends from the pulpit until he enters into prayer, speaking is not forbidden according to the majority of the early and later generations, and this is the most preponderant opinion. The prayer of one who speaks is valid. The meaning of the Hadith: "Whoever says 'silence' has spoken, and whoever speaks has no Friday (prayer)" is that his Friday prayer is not complete, given the consensus that the obligation of the time has been lifted from him.
