Is it permissible to say, "Ya Rasul Allah (O Messenger of Allah)?"

It is impermissible to supplicate anyone other than Allah, whether a prophet or an angel, because supplication is an act of worship purely for Allah the Almighty. Whoever supplicates other than Him has committed polytheism (shirk), as agreed upon by Muslims. Allah the Almighty has described those who supplicate others as the most misguided of people. Those who supplicate others besides Allah will not be answered, and those who are supplicated possess nothing. Rather, they will disavow their polytheism on the Day of Resurrection. Allah commanded His Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to say: (Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power to cause] harm or [to bring about] guidance.") The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also advised seeking help from Allah alone. Therefore, praising the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, with exaggeration, such as saying: "O noblest of creation, I have none to seek refuge in but you," is a mistake and shirk. No Companion or reputable scholar ever did this. When adversities strike, one must turn to Allah alone.
