Must the questioner make up the day on which she intended to break her fast due to severe toothache if she finds a cure, knowing that she did not find a cure and did not break her fast?
If a fasting person intends to break their fast and firmly resolves to do so, then their fast is broken. However, if they condition the intention to break the fast on the availability of medicine, scholars have differed on whether the fast is invalidated by this, holding two opinions: one is that the fast is broken because the person no longer maintains a firm intention to fast, and the other is that the fast is not broken because they did not genuinely intend to break it. However, the correct opinion is that the fast is invalidated because the intention was not firm. Therefore, it is preferable to make up that day as a precaution.
