What is the ruling on a prayer in which the Imam commits a grave linguistic error (laḥn fāḥish) that distorts the meaning, such as reciting: (And We have created the heavens and the earth and what is between them, playing) instead of: (And We have not created)? And does the prayer become invalid due to such an error according to the Hanafis and the other madhhabs?

The Hanafis hold that an error (lahn) that invalidates the prayer includes intentional speech, forgetful speech, or mistaken speech. It invalidates the prayer even if it was due to forgetfulness or error. The majority of scholars, including the Hanbalis and Malikis, believe that the prayer is not invalidated by an error (lahn) that does not change the meaning in other than Surat Al-Fatihah, unless the error was intentional.
