What is the ruling on aborting a fetus in its first week if the mother fears she will not be able to devote herself to it due to her studies, fears its deformation as a result of her exposure to radiation, fears being divorced by her abusive husband, and fears bearing the responsibility for three children, one of whom might be disabled?

It is not permissible to abort the fetus at any stage of its development without a legitimate excuse. The reasons mentioned do not justify proceeding with its abortion, and it may well be a blessed child. The husband is commanded by Islamic law to treat his wife kindly, and his anger towards her, or abusing her, or threatening her with divorce, contradicts good marital conduct. The wife should avoid anything that stirs up problems and advise her husband kindly, and avoid divorce due to its negative consequences.
