The answer

If wine turns into vinegar by itself, it becomes pure. However, transforming wine into vinegar is explicitly prohibited. It is narrated from Anas that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was asked about orphans who inherited wine, and he said: "Pour it out." It was then asked: "Should we not turn it into vinegar?" He said: "No." He was also asked about wine being turned into vinegar, and he said: "No."
