How many verses or pages does a Hizb consist of, and how many quarters does it contain?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Qur’an is divided into sixty hizbs, and each hizb is usually ten pages long. This division into ahzab has no bearing on the reward for recitation; rather, it is intended to aid memorization and reading. The first to introduce this division was Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Al-Thaqafi.

The number of verses varies from one hizb to another. It is preferable for a Muslim to read according to the division of the surahs as the Companions did. If a Muslim pauses during recitation, it is better to consider the meaning.
