The fundamental principle concerning a Muslim is their safety, protection, and the sanctity of their honor. It is impermissible to accuse them of evil without clear proof; otherwise, the accuser is clearly misguided. The sin intensifies if the accusation is of adultery, as Islamic law considers it among the major sins and the seven destructive sins, based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "Avoid the seven destructive sins: ... and slandering chaste, unsuspecting, believing women." This applies equally to slandering a man or a woman. Whoever slanders a free, adult, sane, chaste Muslim deserves the punishment for slander, and the slandered person has the right to demand its execution from the ruler.
