Is it permissible to supplicate for obtaining a perfect score in an exam, or for being concealed [from failure] therein, if there was negligence in studying or answering, whether intentionally or unintentionally?

One should not be complacent regarding what is sought, nor neglect the material means such as revision and diligence. A Muslim is commanded to utilize material means along with supplication. It is not consistent to seek the highest grade after an exam while having been negligent in studying and unsuccessful in answering. This is akin to supplicating for something that is not religiously deserved and for which custom does not allow.
