What is the ruling on what is called "al-haqq" (food, such as dinner or lunch) that one person asks of another after jesting, and is it forbidden?

If the intention behind saying "you are owed something" is to appease someone who was spoken to harshly or was unduly imposed upon, then there is no legal impediment to compensating them with something material, such as dinner or a gift, to remove aversion or hatred. A gift is preferable due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Exchange gifts, for a gift removes ill-feelings from the chest."
