What are the shubuhat (doubtful matters)?
Suspicions (Shubuhat) are matters that are unclear due to their ambiguity and lack of distinctness. Scholars have interpreted them as four things: conflicting evidence, scholarly disagreement, the reprehensible (makruh), and the permissible (mubah) that falls under the category of what is better to avoid (khilaf al-awla). What appears to be the most accurate is conflicting evidence. A Muslim must be cautious concerning his religion and avoid falling into them.
