Is a husband entitled to prevent his wife from studying?

A husband has the right to prevent his wife from going out to study or for other purposes, unless she stipulated in the marriage contract that she be allowed to go out to study, or if her going out is necessary for her to learn an individual obligation (fardh ayn) and the husband has not provided for it, or if she is compelled to go out to avert harm. If the wife goes out without a valid reason, she is disobedient (nashiz) and sinful, and she must repent and obey her husband in what is lawful (ma'roof). The husband has the right to discipline her in a lawful manner. Both spouses must strive for affection and understanding to avoid discord.
