What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding performing the Tarawih prayer with eight salutations instead of four, and regarding the imam's forgetfulness (sahu) and his not prostrating for forgetfulness (sujud al-sahu)?

The Sunnah for night prayers (Qiyam) in Ramadan and other months is eleven rak'ahs, with Taslim after every two rak'ahs. However, exceeding this number is permissible. Night prayers are performed in sets of two rak'ahs, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not restrict them to a specific number. It has been authentically reported that Umar commanded them to pray twenty-three rak'ahs. As for forgetfulness (sahw) in supererogatory prayers (nafilah), its ruling is the same as forgetfulness in obligatory prayers, and two prostrations of forgetfulness are performed for it.
