To what extent is it forbidden to remove an ordinary hijab that causes discomfort to a fifty-five-year-old woman?

The hijab is an obligatory duty upon the Muslim woman. The khimar is a covering that conceals the face, hair, neck, and ears, as commanded by the verse: "And let them cast their headcovers over their bosoms." It is not permissible for an elderly woman to abandon it. The dispensation in the verse "And as for the elderly women" is for them to lay aside their outer garments (jilbab) only, not the khimar or the shield (dir'). Sensitivity to the khimar does not permit abandoning it except in cases of extreme necessity.
