What is the ruling on one who followed the steps of a sorcerer and then repented?

Linguistically, "shawa'dhah" (charlatanism/quackery) refers to sleight of hand and a type of magic, where a thing is perceived by the eye as other than its true nature. More recently, it is used to describe a soothsayer or magician who performs magic or predicts the unseen.

It is obligatory for anyone who has engaged in charlatanism, followed charlatans, or believed them, to repent to Allah by abandoning it, regretting the act, and resolving never to return to it. If the conditions of repentance are met, then Allah accepts repentance from His servants, as He Almighty said: (Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful?)
