Musical instruments and instruments of amusement, such as the oud and flutes, are forbidden by religious texts and the consensus of scholars, with the exception of the daf (tambourine), concerning which scholars have differed in their ruling. As for rhythms, they are of two types: the first is permissible if they are natural sounds, such as sighs and chants, and have not been altered by a computer. The second type is impermissible if the sounds have been processed by computer programs to resemble forbidden musical instruments. Rhythms can be judged based on this detail.
