Is the removal of impurity obligatory immediately or with delay?

It is obligatory to remove impurity immediately in two cases: 1. Being stained with impurity on one's clothes or body without need; this is the relied-upon position of the Shafi'is. 2. When intending to perform an act that is not permissible without removing the impurity, such as prayer, or when impurity occurs during prayer.

Scholars differed in cases other than these two. Some said it is recommended, and some said it is disliked, except for intoxicants, as being stained by them is Haram by consensus.
