Is it permissible to name a newborn girl "Layla," and does its meaning imply the intoxication of wine?

It is true that among the meanings of Layla are "ecstasy" and "the onset of intoxication," but naming a girl with it is permissible. The permissibility of this name is indicated by the presence of female Companions and Successors who bore it. Had it not been permissible, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would have ordered its alteration, as he did with other names.
