The answer

If the salary is delayed for a reason beyond your control and you are unable to dispose of it, then zakat must be paid on it for the year in which it was delayed, and it is considered in the ruling of a debt. Zakat becomes obligatory on the salary if it reaches the nisab and a full year has passed over it. The amount of the nisab is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. One-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of the due amount is to be given as zakat.
