Were any of the Salaf or Tabi'in afflicted with psychological illnesses?
It is not known that any scholar mentioned the existence of psychological illnesses among the Companions or the renowned Tabi'un, although it is permissible and possible. However, the Salaf were connected to Allah, frequently remembered Him, and acted in ways that pleased Him. Texts have indicated that good deeds and remembrance bring tranquility to hearts, expansion to souls, and a good life, as Allah Almighty says: "Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." And His saying: "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life."
