The Prophets, peace be upon them, are human beings like the rest of humanity. They fall ill and are afflicted by the same ailments that afflict humans. This is not considered a shortcoming in their regard, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fell ill, as did Ayyub (Job) and Ya'qub (Jacob), and others. The scholars have permitted the occurrence of illnesses in the case of the Prophets, as long as it does not lead to a deficiency [in their prophetic mission or status].
