Which Companion was the subject of the Noble Verse: "O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, extending to them affection"?

The Companion in whom the verses in question were revealed is Hatib ibn Abi Balta'ah, may Allah be pleased with him. This occurred when he sent a letter informing the polytheists of some matter concerning the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When the Prophet asked him about his action, Hatib clarified that he did so to protect his relatives in Mecca, and his action was neither disbelief nor apostasy. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, believed him and mentioned that he had participated in Badr, and that he was among the people of Paradise whom Allah had forgiven. Allah the Almighty then revealed the verse: "O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies" [Al-Mumtahanah: 1].
