Why did the Prophetic hadiths differ in identifying the Dajjal's blind eye, as to whether it is the right or the left one?
It was narrated concerning the Dajjal that he is blind in the right eye, and in another narration, blind in the left eye. Both are correct. The way to reconcile them is that each of his eyes is defective in a certain way. One of them is truly blind, completely gone, and this is the one about which it was said, "his eye is effaced." The other one is defective, and it is the one about which it was said, "it has a thick membrane (ظفرة) over it, like a glistening star or a floating grape." So, the effaced eye is the right one, and the protruding one is the left one. Thus, both of his eyes are defective.
