What is the difference between al-rayb (doubt/suspicion) and al-shakk (doubt/uncertainty)?

The difference between rayb (doubt/suspicion) and shakk (doubt/uncertainty) is that rayb often refers to delusion and confusion, while shakk is the equality of two opposing sides. Thus, shakk is stronger than rayb and may be explained by it. Rayb is when you imagine something and it is then revealed to be contrary to what you imagined. As for shakk, it is the equilibrium and equality of two opposites in a person's mind, either due to the presence of two equal indications or the absence of any indication for either. In essence, shakk is the equality of two opposing sides where neither is preferred over the other, whereas rayb is a lesser degree of doubt.
