How sound are the two statements: "By God, for me to earn a living through dancing is better than to earn a living through the Qur'an," attributed to Imam Al-Shafi'i, and the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Recite the Qur'an, and do not consume by it, nor seek abundance by it, nor abandon it, nor be excessive in it"?
The aforementioned hadith was narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, and Al-Tabarani. Similar narrations were reported by Al-Bayhaqi, Abd Al-Razzaq, and Abd bin Humayd. It was authenticated by Al-Albani and Shu'ayb Al-Arna'ut. And Allah knows best.
