Is it Sunnah for the muezzin to stand directly behind the imam?

There is no fixed Sunnah from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the muezzin standing behind the imam. What is reported is the recommendation for those of understanding and maturity to be close to the imam. There is no objection to leaving a space for the muezzin behind the imam for him to stand in after the iqamah, without breaking the rows. There is also no harm if this spot is slightly to the right or left of the imam's position.
