Is it permissible for an Imam or a woman to conduct her own marriage contract, in the absence of her guardian (wali amr) and a Muslim guardian (wali Muslim), and out of a desire to avoid falling into sins?

It is not permissible to marry a Christian woman except with the permission of her guardian from among her own people of faith. If he is unable to attend, he should appoint someone to perform her marriage. If she has no guardian, or if he refuses to marry her without a valid reason, her bishops or the judge, if available, may marry her. It is a condition for a Muslim man to marry a Christian woman that she be chaste, and marrying a righteous Muslim woman is preferable.
