What should I do to expiate for false oaths—whose number I do not know—after I have repented from swearing falsely?

The majority of scholars hold that one who intentionally swears a false oath by Allah incurs no expiation, but rather is obligated to repent to Allah the Almighty. However, Al-Shafi'i and a group of scholars are of the opinion that expiation is obligatory. Perhaps combining repentance with expiation is safer. As for the past instances in which you swore oaths and do not know their number, you must offer expiations to the extent that you believe would cover the number of oaths, repent to Allah, and avoid frequent swearing.
