Is the wife obligated to do housework? Does it become obligatory if her husband orders her to do so? Is he entitled to force her? Is it permissible for him to scold her if she falls short due to illness or fatigue?

The aforementioned service is originally obligatory upon the wife even before her husband commands it, and his command further emphasizes it. However, the husband is not permitted to scold his wife if she falls short in it due to an excuse, for Allah Almighty says: ﴿ALLAH DOES NOT BURDEN A SOUL BEYOND ITS CAPACITY.﴾ The fundamental principle is the prohibition of mistreating, insulting, or scolding the wife.
