Is it permissible for a young man and woman who wish to marry, but are currently facing circumstances that prevent them from completing the marriage, to have phone or online conversations, with the knowledge of their families?

It is forbidden for young men and women to communicate with each other under the pretext of marriage through social media, as this opens the door to fitna (temptation, discord) and arouses desires. It was incumbent upon the parents to prevent such communication, based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing," and His saying: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it."
