Is she dutiful to her father, having married without his knowledge?

If a woman marries without the permission of her father, who is her guardian (wali), she has committed an objectionable act and a sin. Her father is permitted to abandon her as a disciplinary measure, unless he sees that maintaining ties with her will lead to her rectification. However, if she marries without her son's knowledge, his dutifulness towards her remains obligatory, regardless of her condition, even if she were a polytheist and commanded him to associate partners with Allah. We caution that a woman's marriage without a guardian is not valid according to the majority of scholars. The most rightful guardian, in order order of priority, is the father, then the paternal grandfather, then the son, then the full brother.
