Is it permissible for a girl to marry herself off if her guardians refuse to marry her to a competent young man for unconvincing reasons, especially if there is an urgent need for marriage?

The preponderant opinion is that the guardian (wali) is a condition for the validity of the marriage contract, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. However, if the guardian prevents his female ward from marrying suitable men, she has the right to refer her case to the Sharia judge. Guardians must also fear Allah concerning those under their guardianship. It is strange for a man to reproach his daughter and accuse her honor without proof, due to the danger involved and the punishment it entails.
