If the maternal aunt falsely slanders her niece, she is an oppressor and has committed one of the major sins. She must offer sincere repentance and recant her statement in front of those who heard the slander. Nevertheless, it is advisable to forgive her, following the example of Yusuf (peace be upon him), and due to the virtue of forgiveness in attaining Allah's pardon and increasing honor. It is important to note the special status of the maternal aunt in Islam; she is like a mother, and showing kindness to her is among the causes for forgiveness. It is not permissible to boycott her unless the boycott is a means of reforming her or averting her harm, knowing that maintaining kinship ties increases provision and life span.
